JUICING
– A NEW DISCOVERY!
Since my father was referred
for further chemotherapy, we both started researching Super Foods
and alternative treatments to Chemotherapy. A dear friend who had
just completed nearly a year of Chemotherapy & Radiation told
me her discovery of Juicing & the personal benefits she had
experienced.
Hence started my search for the Juicer!
Firstly,
I was advised to look for a Masticating Juicer. Which are all expensive
but to the juicing addict give the best results. Then I started
considering the experiences of Bread Making machines – big,
temperamental & end up in the kitchen cupboard. Did I want to
outlay huge amounts of money for a product I didn’t know much
about? I may not even like the results of juicing & may give
up.
I fell upon an offer of a Moulinex Juicer JU500
at only £40.[Classed as a Centrifugal Juicer] Good way to
start & Moulinex have always made reliable equipment.
The journey began & has now progressed to juicing every day
- with a flask supply to my Father every day. His PSA levels have
dropped [may this be the reason?]
I Suggest, from my novice experiences to date, that you
buy a good Juicing Book!
I recommend:-
Jason Vale “The Juicer Master’s Ultimate Fast
Food – discover the Power of Raw Juice” ISBN
0-00-771745-8 www.thejuicemaster.com
[Written in the same style as a bible of mine - Glynn Christian’s
Delicatessen Food Handbook ISBN 0-356-09746-3]
Innocent- Little Book of Drinks ISBN 1-84115-726-0
Do visit www.innocentdrinks.co.uk
[And do sign petition for Government to cut VAT on Juices &
smoothies petitions.pm.gov.uk/taxfreefruit
When I sold them at “food elements” only the yogurt
based smoothies were exempt from VAT. Ridiculous when another Government
department is encouraging the “Five-a-Day Fruit” campaign!
When you haven’t time to Juice, buy the best –“
Innocent” !
TIP - good source to buy quality second hand books www.greenmetropolis.com
Get organised:
Don’t listen to negatives –“Messy to wash up”
it’s all about been methodical
Buy a large dish wash proof chopping board
Advantage to have waste disposer – from juicer to waste disposer
to sink or dishwasher
Plenty of sharp knives
Hand juicer for oranges & lemons – machine won’t
cope with these
Diddy grater for fresh ginger – I have a dinky one from Lakeland
plastics www.lakeland.co.uk
Plentiful Fruit & Vegetable supply. Buy regular supply of lots
of fruit – look out for quality bargains & always stacks
of apples & carrots as base. Fresh oranges & Lemons
Fresh Greek Yogurt for smoothies base; bananas in supply for smoothies;
Seasonal
fruits to add to smoothies
Experiment:
Buy root fresh ginger, tends to zap taste & very good for insides
– always eat a slice raw to cleanse – good idea to take
on holiday if food a bit “iffy”
Be warned on Spinach & Beetroot – strong colours have
strong influence
Don’t expect everything will juice. Follow Jason Vale’s
advise for every item to use - Juicer or Smoothie Blender.
PS.
My Father bought two Goji Berry Bushes which are now planted &
have promise to fruit in first year! – will keep informed!
They normally grow in the Himalayas so not sure how they will fare
in the North of England. May be cheaper than buying the dried version.
