History of coffee "An extraordinary Discovery"

An interesting tale whether it is true or not!

"No one knows for certain how or when coffee was discovered. Its origins are to be found deep in folklore and many legends surround its discovery.

Probably the best known is the tale of Kaldi, the Abyssianan goat herder, in the area now known as Yemen, circa 3AD. He noticed the goats behaved in  an unusual way after eating the red berries! The Monks of a nearby monastery experimented pouring water on the red berries - the brew enabled the monks to stay awake during long hours of night prayer!

The discovery led to the commercial cultivation of the coffee tree in the Yemen 15th and 16th Century.

ESPRESSO - IBRIK TIPS - TURKISH & GREEK METHOD

"Ibrik" Method

The little pot is called an "Ibrik"
.

Start with cold water and coffee which is ground to a "powder" (when you feel the dry grounds if it feels even the least bit like sand it is too coarse). Slowly bring the pot to the boil - the slower the better, pull off and let cool to drop the grounds, and repeat, bringing it to just below a boil a total of three times.

It is an art to do it right and can take up to 20 minutes for the complete "ceremony". You need to try this - its good!

Cardomon Cinnamon & cloves with sugar are also added traditionally.

The brew enabled
the monks to stay
awake
